We’re going to be grandparents! Yep … my husband and I expecting our first grandchild in April and we could not be happier! This is A Fresh Season we have been waiting for! (Did I fit in enough exclamation points to make my point?)

I’m sure we’re not the only expecting grandparents who take a look at our age and wonder if we will be fit and well enough to keep up with a little one running around! I’m already doing the math. What math? You know: The math where you figure out how old you’ll be when the kid is 10 years old, 15 years old, 20 years old. I know there are some of you out there who have done it.

Both my husband and I have health and wellness goals we are working hard to meet and/or maintain. We’re not ultra marathoners but we make it a point to get up and get out and exercise. I feel like I have worked out hard over the past year and so has he. So why at this point do we not have six-pack abs or amazing pecks? We’re both expecting to see the results of our hard work!

At this stage of our life, I don’t think we will see extreme muscle definition. I know I’m not working out that hard to get to that point. It isn’t one of my health goals. I do see other benefits, however, that I’m happy to see:

  • Strength: I keep upping the weights during my workouts and can make it through my 30-minute workout without stopping. I even have the energy to spare after.

  • Jogging: Jogging is still my workout of choice but weight training has taken me to another level. I am stronger – both my body and lungs – and can keep up a good pace – even at my age.

  • Energy: I have more of it. Period. And, this is one area that is important to me as we await the arrival of Hazel/Harrison.

  • Clarity: Having a regular workout routine has helped my mental clarity. Getting my muscles working and oxygen flowing really has helped in this area.

Bottom Line: Do I wish I looked like Victoria Beckham? You bet. In this season of life, it’s just not going to happen – obviously. But I would never have looked like a runway model in my earlier years either. I’m happy with where I am and grateful for a healthy, strong body.  I’m still committed to taking care of it and prepping to run after our little grandbaby.
